Ensuring Relevant and Impactful Organizational Change

In the context of unprecedented state and federal investment in early childhood and a change in internal leadership, an influential state-level early childhood organization engaged the Policy Equity Group to facilitate its strategic planning.

arts and craftsTo better understand the organization’s context and opportunities, we conducted a thorough environmental scan that highlighted key indicators of child and family well-being in the state, federal and state policy and funding opportunities, a marketplace analysis of other organizations in the state’s early childhood space, and the latest research findings and social innovations. In light of the opportunities and challenges presented in the environmental scan, the organization’s internal capacity was examined. This included an assessment of the staffing structure and capabilities, a review of current activities and goals, and interviews with each member of the staff. Finally, the strategic planning team collected and analyzed external stakeholder perceptions of the organization’s strengths, key accomplishments, and areas for growth.

With a solid understanding of the needs and opportunities, the Policy Equity Group worked with employees at all levels to develop an actionable framework of mission, values, goals, and initiatives to guide the organization forward in its work.
